Nhojony

Nhojony Torres, an aspiring businesswoman, is determined to be better than normal. Although she is a first-generation college student, she is maximizing her opportunities at A&T with a double major in entrepreneurship and marketing & sales.

Nhojony, a native of Albany, New York, credits her motivation to growing up in a low-income family and wanting to provide for herself and her family.

“As of right now, working on two degrees I feel is going to pay off as well as my perfume and cologne business”, said Nhojony, the owner of Oils by Nhojony, a 100% natural and handmade fragrance oil company.

In addition to her academic and entrepreneurial endeavors, Nhojony is proudly involved in the American Marketing Association and 2 A&T student organizations: Estamos Unidos and Humans First.

Nhojony values being able to be a part of improving local community issues, especially those that disproportionately affect the black community. Nhojony gave an honorable mention to Humans First, a student-led organization in partnership with the University Police Department to build a bridge with the student body by means of community service and educational, interactive programming.

“I feel like in the black community, definitely like police brutality, black-on-black crime, it makes me feel angry, disappointed, frustrated,” Nhojony added. “Being a part of Humans First and being able to sit down and discuss what’s really going on and how we as an organization can change the norms that are around us each and every day helps.”

Despite the societal norms that could be Nhojony’s reasons to conform, she is consciously working to be better, to be Flier.
